A post from June 1:
I met Pirates GM David Littlefield last night. I scored last-minute tickets to the Trib’s box for Tuesday’s game, and Dave stopped by while making a round of visits to some of the luxury boxes.
Daryle Ward, Freddy Sanchez and Oliver Perez provided the highlights for the evening, however. Perez pitched well, despite giving up three solo home runs and a deep sac fly. The best part of his line: no walks. Sanchez drove in two runs with a double to the North Side notch, and Ward homered two pitches after I said to my daughter (see photo), “It’s time for him to hit a home run over the 84 Lumber sign.” OK, he pulled it and missed the sign.
In the P-G game story this morning I read that Mackowiak misplayed a line drive to centerfield. To me, it looked like he dove for the ball and almost made a spectacular catch. At that point, the game was tied, 3-3.
